joined Huddersfield Town from Nottingham Forest on 2nd February 1965 and
made his debut four days later in a 2-1 home win over Swindon Town (Div
2). Playing at inside left he then made 15 straight appearances up
to the end of the season scoring three goals. The following season
he missed only one League fixture as Town finished 4th, often providing
a supply line for strikers Allan Gilliver and Tony Leighton, but with
age creeping up on him was then transferred to Bristol City on 27th October
1966. His Huddersfield Town club totals stood at 70 appearances (plus
one as sub) in League, F.A. Cup and League Cup during which he scored six
goals. The 1966/67 A&BC card notes: "Huddersfield Town inside left. Formerly with Nottingham Forest, John has a flair for creating goals rather than scoring them, but was a valuable member of the Huddersfield forward line in 1965-66, when he established himself in the first team. same side as his cousin Jack in 1952, going on to make four senior appearances
at the international level, scoring two goals. The Rothmans Football League Players Records book (Rothmans 1981) notes 'Cousin of the ebullient Jack Froggatt, also having a father who was a pre-war Sheffield Wednesday star to boot. Tall, blond, with great constructive ability, specialising in the crossfield pass, was the driving force behind the Owls for over fifteen seasons. As a regular member of the side must have felt like a yo-yo, being either promoted or relegated from first to second division seven times in all after the war. In that period won three second division mdeals.' |
