The Eagle/Swift Wallet Of Soccer Stars

The first part of this football card collection was given away with the final issue of Swift, published on 2nd March 1963. Following Swift’s merger with Eagle, the remaining three cards were distributed with the first three editions of the newly combined Eagle/Swift comic.

A plastic wallet to hold the cards was included with the issue dated 9th March. The front of the wallet features Ray Pointer (Burnley), while the reverse shows Peter Bonetti of Chelsea and Johnny Gordon of Birmingham City.

This special football feature was issued in two parts, the first of which appeared in Boys’ World dated 28th September 1963 (Vol. 1, No. 36). The second instalment was made available the following week. When folded and assembled correctly, the pages form a 16-page booklet packed with football facts, features, and personalities of the day.

Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly ran for just under 23 years in 3 different incarnations, finally ceasing in June 1974. For more information see www.charlesbuchansfootballmonthly.com. The World Stars comprises a Souvenir Album with spaces for 80 small black and white stickers.

The stickers came in four sheets, each with 20 stickers.
