Comet Sweets, based in Slough, England, was a British confectionery company active during the late 1950s and early 1960s. A subsidiary of Paramount Laboratories of Slough, Berkshire, Comet Sweets was primarily known for producing sweet cigarettes and collectible trade cards.
In addition to the “Footballers & Club Colours” series featured on this page, Comet Sweets also produced the “Modern Wonders” set, which was issued in 1961.
This 25-card collection showcased contemporary technological advancements and engineering marvels, including illustrations of the Sukkur Barrage, Panama Canal, and Sputnik III. Each card measured approximately 35 x 67 mm and featured text printed in black or blue ink variants.
Comet Sweets also produced the “Olympic Achievements” series in 1960, a 25-card set highlighting significant moments and athletes from the Olympic Games.

Footballers & Club Colours
The set comprises 50 numbered cards, each depicting a full-colour illustration of a footballer in his club kit on the front. On the reverse, each card features the player’s name, club, and a brief biography — not unlike the Barratt cards produced during the same period.
